Abstract

Digital disruption has transformed Indonesia's economy, amplifying both inequality and opportunity. As influential institutions, religious communities often struggle to respond systematically due to a lack of contextual theological frameworks. This study aims to construct a critical theological framework to guide the active role of religious communities in building economic resilience and social justice in the digital era. This qualitative research combines a philosophical-theological analysis of Islamic-Catholic social doctrine and an exploratory case study of two initiatives in Java: digital entrepreneurship in Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) and a digital cooperative in a parish. The findings indicate that the dominant theological response remains trapped in reactive charitable philanthropy. As a solution, this study proposes the "Theology of Divine Digital Obligation" framework with three pillars: (1) Digital Procedural Justice Hermeneutics (reinterpreting justice concerning platform access, data, and algorithms), (2) Digital Economic Ecology Ethics (responsibility for human dignity within the digital ecosystem), and (3) Transformative Prophetic Accompaniment (a role shift towards empowerment accompaniment). This framework shifts the paradigm for religious communities from traditional philanthropy to agents of systemic resilience. Its implementation requires enhanced digital-theological literacy and multidisciplinary collaboration.
